Welcome to the QCOBA website. The aim of this site is to link Old Boys worldwide with their Alma Mater and each other. It is your site and possibly your only contact with Queen's.
The idea of an Old Boys' Association was established in 1912 by a group of enthusiasts in Johannesburg who met at the request of W.E.A. Lehmann. (1906) They elected W. Llewellyn Morgan as their chairman, unfortunately after just three meetings The Great War interfered and everything was put on hold.
At the same time it was recognized that the Headquarters of such an Association must be at the school itself and, therefore, in Queenstown. On 30 March 1922 a general meeting was called and the QCOBA was successfully launched and began to grow rapidly. The object then, was and still is, "to keep Old Boys in touch with the School and with each other” and so long as this is the aim nothing else matters.
Life Membership of the Association is presently set at R750.00. Grade 12 pupils are invited to become Life Members. They are welcomed into the Association at a "Tie and Badge” ceremony which takes place at the end of their school year.
Past pupils who did not make use of this opportunity for whatever reason are able to become Life Members by making written application to the National Office or through a branch of the Association. They will be requested to pay the current membership fee to register as a member.
To enable the Association to keep in touch with everyone the onus falls on the members to keep their information up to date. As you navigate the website please be aware that the success of the site relies heavily on your input. News and activities need to be added to the site to keep it current, and your input is of the utmost importance.
We hope you find this site user-friendly and interactive.
