Athletics is one of the top summer sports offered at Queen's College. Over 200 boys each year are registered for athletics.
At the beginning of each year the annual inter-house athletics meeting is held in order to determine the top performers per event. This is always a fun event with the entire school participating for points for their respective houses. The staff/prefect relay race to end the meeting always goes down well with the boys and staff.
Queen's College takes part in local inter-schools athletics meetings. Athletes are selected to represent the Eastern Cape at these meetings and go on to participate in various interprovincials across the country. Queen's consistently produces athletes of provincial standard and this can be attributed to a dedicated coaching staff and outstanding facilities. Queen's College boasts a 400m cinder track which will be upgraded to a tartan track in the not-too-distant future. In addition, we are able to cater for long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus and javelin events.
Queen's College participates in the Hirsh Shield athletics meeting. Schools from all over the Eastern Cape take turns to host this annual event, which has proven to be the top athletics competition in the Eastern Cape. Queen's have won this event more times than any other participating school.
