Photographic Society
The Photographic Society, in conjunction with the Queenstown Photographic Workgroup, aims to promote the fine art and skill of photography amongst the boys at Queen's. They gain experience by taking photographs at school events. Photographic competitions are held regularly as well as workshops during which time the boys learn to hone their skills.
CRITERIA FOR AWARDS
As a guideline to achieving awards, points will be awarded as follows.All awards are at the recommendation of the Teacher-in-Charge for taking photos:
- Sport during the week (1 point)
- Photos published in The Rep (2 points)
- Saturdays (Half day) (2 points)
- Photos published in The Dispatch (3 points)
- Saturdays (away) (3 points)
- Special Events (2 points)
- Achieving a placing (1st – 3rd) in a Photographic Competition ( 5 points)
- Must have at least 10 points to enter photo of the year.

- Must be an active member of the society
- Must attend at least 80% of the meetings
- Must have a minimum of 10 points based on the above criteria.
Half Colours
- Must be an active member of the society for 2 years
- Must attend at least 80% of the meetings
- At least one photo must have been published in the local newspaper
- Must have a minimum of 20 points based on the above criteria.
Colours
- Must be an active member of the society for 3 years
- Must attend at least 90% of the meetings
- Must have a portfolio with numerous published works of Provincial standard
- Must have a minimum of 30 points based on the above criteria.
Honours
- Must be an active member of the society for 4 - 5 years with a minimum of 40 points based on the above criteria
- Must attend at least 90% of the meetings
- Must have photos of a varying nature appearing inregional newspapers
- Must receive aTop 10 placing in a National (SA) photographic competition
- Portfolio must be ofNational Standard.
