  • All First Team coaches are expected to keep comprehensive and accurate records of team andindividual performances for the benefit of the Colours Committee.
  • The Colours Committee members may obtain further information from First team coaches concerning their recommendations, while First team coaches may motivate their recommendations before the Colours Committee.
  • The Colours Committee will decide the prize winners for the Best Sporting Achievement, theBest All-Round Sportsman and the Ivan Busse Cup.
  • No awards may be announced without clearance from the Colours Committee and theHeadmaster.
  • Selection for a Provincial or National team does not guarantee either Colours or Honours asthis decision is still made at the discretion of the Colours Committee.
  • If consensus cannot be reached by the Colours Committee, the Headmaster will use hisdiscretion to determine whether to make an award or not.

CRITERIA FOR AWARDS IN ALL SPORT

With few exceptions the following points apply to all sports, though many sports will have additional criteria to cater for their particular needs:

  • All awards cover a calendar year.
  • Re-awards are not automatic.
  • In general, First Team Blazer awards are based on representation, though there are exceptionsin athletics and swimming where certain standards have to be achieved.
  • Colours and Honours awards are based on ability, skill, performance and results.
  • A higher award can only be made after the preceding award has been achieved.
  • All awards of First Team blazer, Colours and Honours can only be made when the requirements at First Team level are met. (i.e. the boy must have been competing at the Senior level in the school and/or represented the Province at Senior level).
  • On the recommendation of the First Team coach, and at the discretion of the Colours Committee, a First Team Blazer award can be made even though a participant does not meet the necessary qualifications.
  • All awards are dependent upon acceptable attitude and behaviour on and off the field. The withholding of an award will be decided by the Headmaster on the recommendation of the Colours Committee.
  • Awards already made may be withdrawn or suspended for unacceptable behaviour or breaches of discipline. he decision will be made by the Headmaster on the recommendation of the Colours Committee.
  • Colours and Honours awards are made at the discretion of the Colours Committee using "average provincial” and "average national” standards respectively as guidelines (NOTE – a boy selected for a provincial or national schools team will not automatically be given the respective awards, nor is he excluded from being given the awards if he is not chosen to play in those teams).
  • Criteria may be changed on the recommendation of the Master-in-charge based upon acceptable National standards and then passed by the Colours Committee.
  • Honours in Sport: A boy must be in Grade 11 or 12 to be eligible for this award.
